Nick Stefan

Nick Stefan is the founder of Stefan Jiu Jitsu Academy in Oceanside, California and former owner of Gracie Humaitá Carlsbad and San Marcos. He is a highly respected black belt instructor known for his deep technical knowledge, methodical teaching style and long-standing commitment to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in North San Diego County.

Nick holds the rank of 5th-degree black belt under the Gracie Humaitá lineage, historically connected to Master Royler Gracie. Over the years he has helped build a strong network of instructors and black belts, many of whom went on to open successful academies of their own.

He is a 3rd place ADCC 2006 medalist, a No-Gi World Champion and a Pan-American Champion. He has competed in IBJJF and other elite-level tournaments, always emphasizing efficiency, control and precision over flash. This competitive mindset informs his teaching where strategy and timing take priority over brute force.

At Stefan Jiu Jitsu Academy in Oceanside he leads a training environment focused on self-defense, technical mastery, kids’ development and instructor mentorship. He teaches Jiu-Jitsu as a problem-solving art with an evolving curriculum from white belt to black belt and beyond. Known as a teacher of teachers, he has directly influenced the development of numerous instructors across San Diego County and beyond.

He recently introduced a belt recognition system under his own black belt association to maintain the integrity of rank lineage and address long-term affiliation concerns. With a renewed academy and growing team he continues to host promotions, seminars and mentorship programs for both adult and youth students.
